Dr. Cannon recognizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach to spine care and was one of the original founder's of the Neurological Institute of Savannah and Center for Spine. Dr. Cannon has an impressive amount of experience treating complex back and neck problems. As a board-certified neurosurgeon and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Cannon has practiced neurological surgery in Savannah since 1970 and is referred some of the most complex cases of back and neck pain from across Southeast Georgia and South Carolina. Dr. Cannon chose to complete his education and formal training in his native state of Georgia. He earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 1961. He did an internship at Floyd County Hospital in Rome, Georgia, before relocating to Blairsville to practice general medicine until 1965. Dr. Cannon then completed a residency in general surgery at Emory University, followed by a residency in neurosurgery from 1966 to 1970. Dr. Cannon is a member of multiple medical societies including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons. He is also a State Representative of the Joint Council of State Neurosurgical Societies of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Cannon has served on the board of trustees at St. Joseph's Hospital since 1996.
